This hiking tour will take us up the steep slopes of Mt Srđ, a dramatic vertical background of the City of Dubrovnik. Rising 412m above the sea, Srđ offers the very best 360* view of Dubrovnik, its hinterland, Lokrum island and open sea. Its top is adorned with Fort Imperial, built during the Napoleonic wars. Srđ was once covered in oak forest, which locals call Dubrava, after which the city of Dubrovnik was named. Srđ was also the place of one of the fiercest battles during the recent Croatia Independence War, the siege of Dubrovnik, which is today commemorated at Fort Imperial Museum.
Our Mt Srđ Hiking tour starts early in the morning at 6 a.m. The pace will be adjusted to the group and its preferences. Our path takes us uphill, via an old zigzagging road built by Napoleon forces, all the way to Fort Imperial. We shall then proceeded to Strinčerja Fortress, situated about 1.300 m of straight line northeast of Fort Imperial. Built during the Austrian Hungarian Empire, Strinčerja is another fortress offering yet more exciting vistas. Here we’ll turn around here and go back to Fort Imperial. There we’ll enjoy a well deserved rest with a photo-stop and refreshment.
