Giro de Ćiro is a scenic bike tour following the trail of “Ćiro“ (pronounced: “Cheeroo“), a famous and beloved local train which used to run on an old historic monorail, built during the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Two years ago, “Ćiro“ trail was revitalized and transformed into a biking, hiking and running track.
This 18 km long scenic track is secured by safety fence and equipped with signalization and info boards. Several resting spots, equipped with tables and benches, offer the stunning vistas of Konavle Valley.
The special attraction of our Giro de Ćiro bike tour itinerary are three tunnels. The largest “Mihanići“ Tunnel also happens to be a habitat of endangered bat species. The southern entrance to the tunnel has a resting point which attracts many nature lovers who enjoy bat watching.
Giro De Ćiro starts on the historic Zvekovica Railway Station which will be our gathering, start and finish point. Proceeding though a picturesque Konavle Valley it’ll eventually take us to an elevated point with a spectacular vista of Konavle, its quaint villages, wine yards, olive groves, grain mills and little rivers. We’ll then pass though a tunnel, eventually arriving to a railway station situated atop the hill. This is a perfect spot for a refreshing picnic and taking photos. After the break, the time has come now to descend down the road, back to our starting point.
